Rev. William Lafe McClelland Jr, age 83, of Nineveh Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 26, 2026. He was born on January 17, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to William and Alice (Cooper) McClelland Sr. William married the love of his life, Betty (Harrington) McClelland on April 4, 1970.
William started his career in 1962 at The New York Central Railroad in Beech Grove and went on to work at Eli Lilly & Company for over 25 years as a Carpenter Millwright. William was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love with others. He became an ordained minister in 1981 and pastored the Meadows Church of God for 9 years. William also dedicated his pastoral care at the Neighborhood Church of God where he held many roles throughout his life. William had a heart for others and deeply loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and studying his Bible. William's infectious laugh and loving support of his grandchildren will be missed the most.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice (Cooper) McClelland; sisters Mildred Boicourt, Nellie Berry, and Bernice Ostrander; brothers Ermal McClelland and Edgar Campbell. William is survived by his beloved wife Betty (Harrington) McClelland, daughters Sarah (Chip) Clark, Sherry (Scott) Shuler, and son William Lafe McClelland III; grandchildren: Whitney (Jacob) Burkett, Samuel Shuler, and Gabrielle Shuler; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 2nd from 4 to 8 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. The Rev. Rodney Walker will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
