Carolyn Michelle "Shelly" (Johnson) Fox

Carolyn Michelle “Shelly” (Johnson) Fox, age 61, of Brown County, passed away far too soon on Friday morning, February 27, 2026, at home following a courageous 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shelly was born in Franklin on August 23, 1964, to the late Michael S. Johnson and Carolyn Jane (Vaught) Johnson. She was a proud 1983 graduate of Brown County High School. For the past four years, Shelly worked as a custodian at Sprunica Elementary School in Brown County. Prior to that, she faithfully served in the same role at the Indiana Masonic Home (Compass Park) in Franklin for over 30 years. In both places, she was known for her strong work ethic, warm smile, and genuine care for others. Shelly formed many lasting friendships throughout her years of service.

Shelly was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #439 Franklin Chapter. She enjoyed working alongside her husband in auto restoration, attending car shows and riding on his Harley. She also found joy in tending to her flowers, relaxing by her pool, swimming, riding horses, and playing softball.

On September 24, 1992, Shelly married the love of her life, Gary L. Fox, in Brown County. Together they shared 26 wonderful years of marriage. In addition to her loving husband, Shelly is survived by her son, Bobby Fox of Nashville; her siblings, Mary Ross of Nashville, Tina (Herman) Trilling of Elizabethtown, and Michael Johnson of Bargersville; mother-in-law, Betty Fox of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Scooter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul S. “PJ” Johnson; and her father-in-law, Arion Fox.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday, March 6, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Dr. Steven L. Smith will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
